    11:27 AM — Brian Souter, the Stagecoach co-founder who gave £1 million to a 2000 campaign to uphold Section 28, has been honoured with a knighthood. The 57-year-old businessman has not spoken out against gay rights in 11 years but almost 2,500 people have signed a petition calling for the honour to be rescinded.

    6:09 PM — The governor of Tennessee has signed a bill which gay rights campaigners say will wipe out all any laws which protect LGBT people from discrimination. Governor Bill Haslam signed the law yesterday. It bans cities and municipalities from making their own anti-discrimination ordinances and bans any area from having stronger protections than are available at state level.

    12:08 AM — Tennessee’s Senate has passed a bill that proposes to introduce a ban of discussing homosexuality within schools. The bill, approved by 5 votes to 4 at the Senate will ban all teachers in public elementary and middle schools from talking about the subject.

    11:42 AM — Gay Conservative MP Nigel Evans says he was in denial and going through a "neanderthal phase" when he voted for Section 28. The MP for Ribble Valley, who came out last year, backed the legislation to ban mention of homosexuality in schools and once voted against lowering the age of consent for gay men.

The legislation, known as the 'Don't Say Gay' bill, was introduced by Republican Senator Stacey Campfield, who has been pushing for the law for several years.
