5:33 PM — A school in the US state of Alabama has backed down after telling a student she could not wear a gay rights t-shirt. Sara Couvillon, a student at Hoover High School in Birmingham, threatened school officials with legal action when she was told not to wear the shirt for her own safety.

3:49 PM — A Florida teacher who wrote on Facebook that he "almost threw up" when New York legalised gay marriage has been suspended. Jerry Buell, a social studies teacher at Mount Dora High School, also wrote that gay marriages were a "cesspool" and a "sin".

1:53 PM — A school district in Missouri, US, is being sued by a gay rights group for restricting access to informative gay websites. Camdenton R-III School District is being sued by the American Civil Liberties Union, which says that the district has ignored warnings that its actions are unconstitutional.

Billy Elliot author’s opera pulled after school objects to gay character 72
10:46 AM — A community opera by the author of Billy Elliot has been pulled after a primary school demanded that a gay character be written out. Lee Hall, who wrote the hugely successful show about a boy who wants to dance, had been working on Beached with opera company Opera North and 400 residents of East Yorkshire town Bridlington.
