11:51 AM — The Rev Jesse Jackson has called for California's ban on gay marriage to be struck down. The Baptist minister and civil rights activist spoke at a gathering outside the San Francisco appeals court where the latest hearings on the ban are taking place.

12:14 PM — The openly gay Bishop of New Hampshire, Gene Robinson, has announced he will retire early. Rev Robinson will be 65 when he retires in 2013, seven years before the usual retirement age for bishops.

Bishop of Wakefield says church must listen to gay people 20
5:01 PM — The Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Stephen Platten, says that the Church of England must listen to gay people inside and outside the church. Writing after attending a gay group's meeting, he said he felt "shamed" because he had not listened to gay people.

Equal Love campaign: First gay couple denied marriage 21
4:46 PM — The first of eight gay and straight couples to challenge the UK's marriage laws have been denied a marriage at a London registry office, as expected. Rev Sharon Ferguson and her partner Franka Streitzel, the lead gay couple in the Equal Love campaign, were denied permission to marry this morning in Greenwich.
