Call for congregations to reject Church ban as religious civil partnerships come into effect 29
3:11 PM — Peter Tatchell has called on priests and congregations to reject the Church of England's ban on civil partnerships in their churches, as new regulations allowing come into effect today. The Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Approved Premises) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 come into force today, and lift the ban on places of religious worship holding civil partnership ceremonies.

Mr Tatchell spoke out in support of Adrian Smith, 54, who was disciplined by the Trafford Housing Trust for the remarks on his private Facebook page.

Israel LGBT youth conference cancelled 95
4:54 PM — An international LGBT youth conference will no longer be held in Israel after Palestinian gay groups complained. The International LGBTQ Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO) general assembly was to be held in Tel Aviv in December.

UK marriage equality consultation delayed 54
12:19 PM — The British government says a consultation on the future of marriage equality and civil partnerships will be held this autumn. Earlier this year, equality minister Lynne Featherstone said the government would begin asking for views on the issue in the summer.
Another MP condemns religious rights motion 30
11:14 AM — Another MP has withdrawn his name from a motion supporting proposals to give religious homophobes the right to 'reasonable accomodation' in the workplace. Liberal Democrat MP Adrian Sanders said the motion had caused a "great deal of upset" and did not clearly state its intentions.

Another MP withdraws from religious rights motion 66
11:25 AM — Another MP has withdrawn his name from a motion apparently calling for religious workers to be allowed to refuse to serve gay people. Liberal Democrat MP for Portsmouth South Mike Hancock, who recently accused the UK Border Agency of homophobia, said he signed the early day motion by accident.

Government to consider removing ‘insult’ from Public Order Act 28
2:05 PM — The government says it will "assess the benefits" of removing the crime of causing 'insult' from the Public Order Act. The law has been used to prosecute street preachers who persist in delivering anti-gay sermons in public, although some campaigners say it should not be illegal to insult people.

More women than men having civil partnerships 24
10:38 AM — For the first time, more women than men are having civil partnerships in the UK. According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics, 49 per cent of last year's ceremonies were held by men. In 2009, men held 51 per cent of all civil partnerships.
