May scraps ‘ridiculous’ equality duty but promises new action on anti-gay bullying 35
12:56 PM — Schools will be given new powers to deal with homophobic and transphobic bullying and measures to delete historic sex convictions will be in the Freedom Bill, Home Secretary Theresa May announced today. She also said that an equality duty on public bodies would be scrapped.

11:58 AM — Equality minister Harriet Harman has backed down over an amendment on who churches can employ. She is thought to have made the climbdown to avoid a continuing dispute with church leaders in the face of the Pope's visit in September.

2:46 PM — Harriet Harman, the minister for women and equality, has been fined £350 for driving without due care and attention. She was also ordered to pay £70 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, along with receiving three penalty points on her driving licence.
