    Irish civil partnerships come into law 27

    Ireland now recognises civil partnerships

    11:39 AM — Ireland's civil partnership law came into force at the weekend, although gay couples must wait until early April to hold their ceremonies. The law was welcomed by the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network as a "new dawn" for gay and lesbian couples but other groups said it was not good enough.

    Ireland will soon allow civil partnerships

    6:21 PM — The Irish justice minister Dermot Ahern has tabled amendments to give civil partners equal treatment in Ireland's immigration laws. The Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill is currently at Committee stage in the Dáil.
