5:41 PM — A straight couple will be next to challenge the UK's ban on gay marriage and straight civil partnerships. Andrew O'Neill, a comedian, and Stephanie Munro, an administration manager, say that marriage is patriarchal and they do not want to be part of an institution which bars gays and lesbians.
Appeals court hears California gay marriage case 2
3:57 PM — A federal appeals court was due to begin hearing a case on California's gay marriage ban today. The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco will hear arguments around a federal judge's ruling that the ban on gay marriage in the state is unconstitutional.

2:36 PM — A second gay couple have been barred from applying to marry in Greenwich, south-east London. David Watters and Richard Hull's rejection follows the Rev Sharon Ferguson and her partner Franka Streitzel being denied a marriage at Woolwich registry office last month.
Illinois senate approves civil unions 7
10:16 AM — The Illinois senate has given a green light to civil marriage legislation by 32-24 votes. Democratic Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign the bill into law shortly, making Illinois the fifth US state to allow civil unions.

11:05 AM — A lesbian couple were turned away from a registry office yesterday when they tried to apply to marry. Colette French and Katie Green, both 21, were turned away from Petersfield Register Office in Hampshire and refused a letter of rejection, which is usually given to couples denied a marriage.

Apple removes ‘anti-gay’ iPhone app 30
3:45 PM — Apple has apparently removed an app from its iTunes store which rails against gay marriage and LGBT rights. The app, created by a Christian group, disappeared from the online store after media attention, first reported on PinkNews.co.uk.

Anti-gay groups upset at being called ‘hateful’ 38
1:53 PM — US anti-gay organisations have hit back after being included on a list of 'hate groups'. The Family Research Council and National Organization for Marriage were named by a civil rights body as two of 18 groups which "demonise" gay people and propagate "known falsehoods".

Apple approves ‘anti-gay’ iPhone app 48
5:54 PM — Apple has approved an iPhone app which calls on users to sign up to a declaration against LGBT rights and gay marriage. The app is based on the Manhattan Declaration, a manifesto released in 2009 by Christian and Catholic leaders which rails against the "erosion" of marriage.

3:52 PM — A straight couple who were barred from having a civil partnership say they will fight the ban in court. Ian Goggin and Kristin Skarsholt, of Bristol, said they were disappointed to have been rejected by Bristol register office because they are straight but hope that their attempt would help change the law.

Australian Greens predict legal gay marriage as poll shows majority support 7
2:58 PM — The Australian Green party is predicting that gay marriage will soon become law as a poll shows 57 per cent of the public are in favour of the change. Of the 37 per cent who were against the change, 16 per cent were opposed and 21 per cent were strongly opposed.

3:17 PM — Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin says he will marry his partner when his home country legalises gay marriage. The star has not revealed the name of his long-term boyfriend, but says they would get married if they could.

Gay married couple may be split up after US deportation order 6
6:33 PM — A Brazillian man and his American husband may be split up after the US attorney-general refused to reverse an immigration order. Genesio Oliveira, 31, is married to Tim Coco, 49, of Massachusetts, but Mr Oliveira believes he may be sent back to Brazil within six months.
