American Psychological Association calls for gay marriage 126
11:07 AM — The world's largest body of psychologists, the American Psychological Association, has called for state and federal officials to lift barriers to marriage equality. Members at the group's annual meeting in Washington voted unanimously on Wednesday to back "full marriage equality for same-sex couples".

Nationalist Scottish MP accused of attacking gay rights 53
4:54 PM — A Nationalist MSP has been accused of trying to attack gay rights by tabling a motion which says no one should be "forced to be involved in" gay marriages. SNP MSP John Mason tabled the motion ahead of a Scottish government consultation on gay marriage.
UK marriage equality consultation delayed 54
12:19 PM — The British government says a consultation on the future of marriage equality and civil partnerships will be held this autumn. Earlier this year, equality minister Lynne Featherstone said the government would begin asking for views on the issue in the summer.

10:57 AM — Scotland's youth parliament has launched a campaign to urge the government to give gay couples the right to wed. The Love Equally campaign is seeking full marriage equality and also calls for straight people to be given the right to have civil partnerships.

New Jersey gay couples sue for the right to marry 33
12:21 PM — Seven gay couples in the US state of New Jersey are to sue for the right to marry. The couples, along with some of their children, say they will file a suit in the state Supreme Court today to demand that their partnerships are recognised as marriages rather than civil unions.
