LGBT

LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Along with LGBTQ+, it’s often used as a shorthand for the longer LGBTQQIDAAPPO2SBNBGNCGGAPPO+ acronym, which stands for queer, questioning, intersex, demisexual, asexual, pansexual, polysexual, omnisexual, two-spirit, bigender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, genderfluid, a gender, polygender, pangender and omnigender  – plus any additional identities. The initialism became popular from around 1988, when activists started to use it in the US. Many people use LGBT+ to ensure all related communities feel acknowledged, others prefer LGBTQIA to add references to queer, intersex and asexual people. Other people advocate for the term “minority sexual and gender identities” (MSGI) coined in 2000, and which includes all people who are not cisgender and heterosexual.
