    10:16 AM — California governor Jerry Brown has signed into law a bill requiring all schools to teach about the contributions of LGBT people through history. The move makes the state the first in the US to ensure that all children learn about figures such as San Francisco gay rights campaigner Harvey Milk.

    4:23 PM — Actor James Franco has revealed he was the subject of rumours which claimed he had raped a former boyfriend. In an interview with Playboy magazine, he said he had been a victim of false accusations that he had dated a man for six months and then beat him up.

    3:31 PM — A bill requiring schools in California to teach pupils about LGBT history has been passed by the Assembly. It has already been approved by the Senate and now goes to state governor Jerry Brown, who has not said whether he will sign it.

    ‘Milk’ voted gay film of the decade 26

    4:52 PM — 'Milk', the story of gay rights hero Harvey Milk, has been voted the gay film of the decade. A Stonewall poll of 800 people put the biopic in the top spot. The film, directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Sean Penn, was commended for its realistic portrayal of gay people.

    2:36 PM — A second gay couple have been barred from applying to marry in Greenwich, south-east London. David Watters and Richard Hull's rejection follows the Rev Sharon Ferguson and her partner Franka Streitzel being denied a marriage at Woolwich registry office last month.

    2,000 join London vigil against hate crime 13

    12:01 PM — Two thousand people braved the wind and rain to join a London vigil to remember victims of hate crime on Saturday evening. The crowd assembled in Trafalgar Square and heard speeches by equality minister Lynne Featherstone and Stuart Milk, the nephew of murdered US gay rights activist Harvey Milk.

    The vigil begins at 7pm

    3:16 PM — A vigil will be held in London's Trafalgar Square tomorrow to remember victims of hate crime. Speakers will include Stuart Milk, the nephew of murdered gay rights campaigner Harvey Milk, Stephen Brookes MBE, from the Disability Hate Crime network, and deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes.
