Call for congregations to reject Church ban as religious civil partnerships come into effect 29
3:11 PM — Peter Tatchell has called on priests and congregations to reject the Church of England's ban on civil partnerships in their churches, as new regulations allowing come into effect today. The Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Approved Premises) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 come into force today, and lift the ban on places of religious worship holding civil partnership ceremonies.

7:11 PM — The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams apologised yesterday for statements he has made about gay people in the church. He said he was "profoundly sorry" for giving the impression of "ignoring or undervaluing" human realities.
