US Congress ‘lags behind’ public on marriage equality 6
10:13 PM — Research suggests that US Congress members lags behind the public on marriage equality. According to a database compiled by Human Rights Campaign, only 34 per cent of Congress supports marriage equality, compared to polls which suggest more than 50 per cent of Americans back the rights of gay couples to marry.

US: Michigan gay rights campaigners launch hunger strikes 5
9:14 PM — Gay rights campaigners in Michigan, US, are launching an 100-day shift-based hunger strike to protest against the state's "extreme anti-gay environment". The strikers, from eight gay rights organisations, will fast for 24 hours at a time at LGBT centre Affirmations in Ferndale. The shifts end on election day.

Chick-Fil-A chief confirms company is opposed to equal marriage 46
11:15 PM — The chief operating officer of US fast food chain Chick-Fil-A has confirmed that his company is against equal marriage rights for gay people. Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that the company was "guilty as charged", when asked about its perceived opposition to equal marriage.
