7:35 PM — The Obama administration's Department of Justice has asked the Supreme Court to hear two cases against the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA). AP reports that the earliest the cases are likely to be heard is September, with a decision made in June 2013.

3,000 gay couples marry in New York 5
10:39 PM — In the 12 months since equal marriage was legalised in New York, more than 3,000 gay couples have tied the knot. According to the Syracuse Post-Standard, the number of gay weddings since June 24th 2011 stands at 3,037, not including New York City.
Illinois county clerks’ bid to defend gay marriage ban 9
9:36 PM — Two Illinois county clerks have been granted permission to defend the state's equal marriage ban. The clerks, named as Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel and Tazewell County Clerk Christie Webb, are being backed by Catholic group The Thomas More Society, which filed a request on their behalf.
