    3:29 PM — Lancashire police are appealing after a teenage boy was the victim of a homophobic assault in the town of Nelson earlier this month which left him with a broken jaw.

    Colin Ireland, the 'Gay Slayer', has died, aged 57

    9:44 AM — Colin Ireland, a serial killer who murdered five gay men in the early 1990s has died in prison. Ireland, who was sentenced to whole life imprisonment in 1993 and dubbed the 'Gay Slayer', is reported to have died from natural causes aged 57.

    2:21 PM — The Crown Prosecution Service's latest report on hate crime figures shows that the rate of successful prosecutions for hate crimes in England and Wales rose in 2011 along with the total number of incidents referred to it.

    10:25 AM — A student who lied about being the victim of a homophobic attack has been charged with filing a false report. Quinn Matney, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of North Carolina, claimed that a man shouted anti-gay abuse at him and burned his wrist.

    3:53 PM — Two New York men have pleaded guilty to an anti-gay robbery which left their victim in hospital for three weeks. Daniel Rodriguez, 21, and Daniel Aleman, 27, admit robbery as a hate crime for the attack on 49-year-old Jack Price in October last year in the Queens neighbourhood.

    1:54 PM — Middle-aged gay men who drink in the Charing Cross area of London have been advised to stay on their guard after a spate of drug-assisted robberies. Lambeth Police say there have been a number of incidents in which older men have been approached by a young man in a Charing Cross bar and subsequently robbed.
