Social worker struck off for abusing trans child 6
2:18 PM — A social worker has been found guilty of shouting homophobic abuse at a child in his care. Stan Lansdell, 52, was struck off today for "gross abuse" of his position. He worked for Bradford council at the time of the offences.

4:35 PM — The only gay bar in Canterbury, a city which was condemned by a local Pride group for not being gay enough, has closed. O2 was opened six months ago on King Street but is closing because of a lack of business.

11:41 AM — A man who murdered a gay council officer has had his prison sentenced reduced by two years. David Meehan, who was 19 at the time, admitted murdering James Kerr, 51, in a public park and leaving him for dead while he and his accomplices went to a party.

9:45 PM — As predicted, the Washington DC council has voted 11-2 to legalise gay marriage in the district. Mayor Adrian Fenty has promised to sign the bill when it reaches his desk, which is the next stage.
Lesbian couple win UK appeal over Gibraltar’s housing policy 2
4:11 PM — A lesbian couple who were refused a joint tenancy in government housing in Gibraltar have won their UK appeal. Three years ago, the Housing Allocation Committee refused to grant the unnamed couple a joint tenancy on the basis that they were unmarried.

1:14 PM — Washington DC's council will today vote on a bill allowing gay marriage in the district. Advocates are quietly confident, as nine of the council's 13 members are listed as co-sponsors and mayor Adrian Fenty has clearly signalled he will sign it.

Man evicted for homophobic hate campaign 6
7:11 PM — A man who made his neighbours' lives hell has been served with a 56-day eviction notice. Richard Leonard, 57, of Baldmoor Lake Road, Erdington, had been accused of waging a homophobic and anti-social hate campaign against his neighbours since May.
Straight teacher loses homophobic harassment claim 12
4:18 PM — A straight Scottish teacher who tried to make a claim for homophobic harassment has lost his case. James Campbell, who worked at at Denny High School, claimed that the homophobic insults he received amount to sexual orientation discrimination, despite being straight.
Author Jeanette Winterson attacks ‘anti-gay’ tabloids 12
3:36 PM — Lesbian author Jeanette Winterson has attacked the 'negative' use of the word lesbian in newspapers. Writing on her blog, the Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit author complained that tabloids tended to emphasise the sexual orientation of gay or lesbian criminals.
