11:54 AM — A Christian doctor who was removed from an adoption panel after she refused to endorse applications by same-sex couples hopes to go to the European Court of Justice. Dr Sheila Matthews, of Kettering, will ask the court to establish whether medical opinion should be permitted to override equality laws.

6:10 PM — One in ten people still believe that gay people cannot adopt children, a survey says. According to the research by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering, 11 per cent believed gay or lesbian people were ineligible while 29 per cent thought single men could not adopt.

12:19 PM — A social worker from Nottingham has penned a book to teach children about gay adoptive parents. Ed Merchant, who works part-time at the city council's adoption and fostering unit, wrote Dad David, Baba Chris and Me about an eight-year-old boy who is adopted by a gay couple.

6:23 PM — Tory leader David Cameron has been criticised for denying he had ever voted against gay adoption. In an interview with Attitude magazine last week, Mr Cameron was asked about records which showed he voted to restrict marriage to married couples and bar gay couples from adopting children in 2002.

Portugal votes to legalise gay marriage 30
3:09 PM — Portugal's parliament today voted to legalise marriage for gays and lesbians. The Catholic country will be the sixth in Europe to grant same-sex couples the right to wed, although this will not include adoption rights.

5:46 PM — Lesbian actress Cynthia Nixon will be kicking off a campaign to repeal Florida's ban on gays and lesbians adopting. The Sex and the City star will kick off the American Civil Liberties Union's three-year campaign to end the ban this weekend at South Beach’s Shore Club.
