26 July 2007Comment: Diana, AIDS and the fight for Africa 1 I have been away from the UK these past few months, and I feel a sense of relief that I have been well away from all the action. As I dispatch this piece on board a hydrofoil somewhere near Turkey, all I can see online is severe flooding in England.Politicians who might otherwise have more important things ensuring our safety and wellbeing are dragged out of bed at dawn to go on breakfast television to explain their cannabis misdemeanours from over two decades ago. -

20 July 2007Analysis: The bishop, the youth worker and the tribunal 8 This week saw a landmark victory for a gay youth worker against the might of the Anglican Church. An employment tribunal decided that Kevin Reaney, a gay man, had been discriminated against by the church on grounds of his sexual orientation.Mr Reaney brought his claim under the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003, which make it unlawful to discriminate against employees or prospective employees (such as Mr Reaney) because they are gay. -
20 July 2007TURING: Of homosexuality and the church 2 Love or hate it, it's hard to ignore organised religion. While your columnist is of the opinion that religion should strictly (and I do mean strictly) restricted to consenting adults in private, and while some leading intellectuals want religion completely wiped off the map of the earth, it is hard to reconcile these opinions with the fact that more than 90% of the world's population subscribe to some form of organised religion. -
18 July 2007EXCLUSIVE: The man who took a bishop to a tribunal and won 8 Landmark is one of those words that inevitably loses its value due to over-use, but there is no other way to describe today's ruling by an employment tribunal against the Bishop of Hereford. The tribunal agreed with youth worker John Reaney that he had been discriminated against on the grounds of his sexual orientation. The 2003 law that protects gay, bisexual and lesbian people in employment contains an exemption for religious organisations. -

16 July 2007Interview: Nemesis talk God, Clinton and Michael Jackson 1 Pop duo Nemesis Rising normally get noticed because of the way they look - and hey, even I had my head turned by these identical twins. They certainly got a lot of attention when cameras from Logo TV followed them around for a reality series called Jacob and Joshua: Nemesis Rising.Jacob (blond) and Joshua (dark) showed off their gay life in LA, but also took an emotional trip home to Montana to come out to their Jehovah's Witness family. -

9 July 2007TURING: An ungainly obsession 3 PinkNews.co.uk's new pseudonymous contributor reflects on lessons that can be learnt from the life and death of the genius who is the inspiration for his new weekly column.Alan Turing is no gay icon - and fortunately so.Today, that epithet is more representative of superficial (so-called) celebrities and their obsession with sex, drugs, fashion and every thing else that have come to epitomise popular culture. -
9 July 2007Feature: The long road to decriminalisation 1 40 years ago this month, a campaiging Welsh Labour MP by the name of Leo Abse managed to guide a Bill through both Houses of Parliament.By a combination of smart tactics and appealing to politicians to pity those 'less fortunate' than themselves, he got them to agree to a partial decriminalisation of male homosexual relations. It brought an end to hundreds of years of legal persecution, as Alex Bryce explains. -

30 June 2007Pride QA: Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London 2 Ken, tell us about your first Pride. The very first lesbian and gay march I did, it was in the late 1970s and Tom Robinson was the lead speaker at Trafalgar Square. It was the first time I spoke on the plinth at Trafalgar Square. It was miserable grey day, late winter, early autumn. -
