GLAAD's call to action over tabloid's "evil lesbian" headline
An American gay rights group has urged people to complain to the tabloid newspaper New York Post after staff refused to alter a offensive headline.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which monitors US media, contacted the paper to complain about its treatment of a child abuse story.
"Evil Lesbian Mom Left Toddler to Die Slow Death: DA," was the Post headline, which can still be viewed on their website.
Activists to protest against Moscow's homophobic Mayor
Gay rights activists in Russia are planning to stage a protest against the Mayor of Moscow's opposition to LGBT Pride events when he visits Paris next month.
Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who banned two gay pride parades in 2006 and 2007 and seems likely to ban the third pride on 31 May this year, is going to be in Paris to take part in the M4 meeting (a summit of Paris, Berlin, London and Moscow Mayors) which will take place on 18-19 February in Paris City Hall.
Mayoral candidate wants to cut Pride London funding
An MEP who is standing as the UK Independence Party candidate for Mayor of London has said that if elected he would withdraw funding from the city's Pride celebrations.
Gerard Batten also pledged to target ethnic minority groups. In the 2004 Mayoral elections UKIP came fourth, winning 6% (115,665) of first preference votes.
A founder member of the party, Mr Batten has been an MEP for the London region since 2004.
Homophobic cleric seeks treatment in the UK
An Islamic preacher who has called for gay people to be put to death is to be allowed entry into the UK for medical treatment.
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, 80, was at the centre of a row in 2004 when he came to London as a guest of Mayor Ken Livingstone, who was then heavily criticised by gay rights campaigners and Jewish organisations for inviting him.
He is spiritual leader of Islamicist organisation, the Muslim Brotherhood.
Bryant reveals new teen pregnancy strategy
Gay Labour MP Chris Bryant today launched a new report with dramatic newly compiled figures on teenage pregnancies in every constituency in England and Wales.
Mr Bryant represents the south Wales working class constituency of the Rhondda, where there is a particularly striking rate of teen pregnancies.
The report takes the form of an interactive web site, www.teenagemums.org.uk.
Brazil to distribute millions of condoms to prevent AIDS spread
Brazilian health officials on Sunday began distributing millions of condoms to fight the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases during Brazil's five-day Carnival 2008.
The government expects to hand out 19.5 million condoms by the end of the Carnival on February 6, state news service Agencia Brasil reported, under the program first launched several years ago.
Church officials in Brazil, which is home to the world's largest Roman Catholic population, have opposed the condom programme.

Seminal artist upsets Anglican priest
A gay performance artist has sparked controversy with a new exhibition of drawings which he created by ejaculating onto paper.
The 54 drawings which make up Jordan McKenzie's exhibition, aptly entitled 'Spent,' consist of the artist's seminal fluids covered in a layer of carbon dust.

New HIV drug becomes available for UK patients
A new treatment for HIV positive people who have built up a resistance to other drugs has become available for use in the UK>
Raltegravir is the first in a new class of HIV treatments called integrase inhibitors.
It is available in tablet form and has been approved for use in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to treat HIV infection in adult patients whose current therapy is no longer controlling the virus.
