Study finds suicide more likely in those unsure of sexuality
Young people confused about their sexuality are most vulnerable to suicide, a study of university students has revealed.
The University of Washington research found that while gay, lesbian and bisexual participants are twice as likely as heterosexuals to have attempted suicide, those who still have issues with defining their sexuality are six times as likely.
Of the 528 participants, 79 of these identified themselves as same sex attracted heterosexuals.
Elton photo removed over child porn allegations
Police have seized a photograph owned by singer songwriter Sir Elton John as they believe it breaches child pornography laws.
The image taken by renowned American photographer Nan Goldin was due to go on display as part of her Thanksgiving series at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead when a concerned member of gallery staff contacted police yesterday.

Lesbian couple arrested in same-sex marriage protest
A lesbian couple was arrested in Denver yesterday following their protest of Colorado's ban on same-sex marriages.
Sheila Schroeder, 43 and Kate Burns, 44, staged the sit-in protest in the Wellington E.Webb Municipal Building, when they were refused an application for a marriage licence from the Denver Clerk and Recorder Office.
The couple, who have been together for five years, took Rev. Mike Morran, their local minister from Denver's First Unitarian Church with them.
US Anglicans to stop ordaining gay bishops
In a bid to stop the Anglican Church from splitting, the American Episcopal Church has agreed not to ordain any more openly gay bishops and will not introduce a formal blessing ceremony for same sex civil partnerships.
The compromise between the liberal and conservative branches of the Episcopal Church, as the Anglican Church is known in the US, was agreed late last night as a vote was taken at crisis talks in New Orleans.
The church has agreed to "exercise restraint" when selecting bishops.

Elton John has publicly called for Prime Minister Gordon Brown's help to meet the G8's target for universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS by 2010.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, whose target was tripled at the last G8 in June, was set up in 2002 to finance operations to help combat the diseases around the world.

Straight Americans will be making a stand for gay rights next month by holding candlelit vigils to show public support of the LGBT community.
Seven Straight Nights for Equal Rights takes place from 7-13 October and is the first event of its kind.
The event is hosted by gay-friendly members of each participating state. Jeaneane Hill is hosting Seattle's vigil.
Transsexual actress joins mainstream American drama
American transsexual actress Candis Cayne will feature in the new U.S. prime time drama Dirty Sexy Money.
Cayne a well-known performer in New York City will play Carmelita, the transsexual lover of married Senator Patrick Darling, played by Billy Baldwin.
The series created by Craig Wright tells the story of a young lawyer who goes to work for the Darlings, a rich, powerful and corrupt New York family
Costa Rica considers law to prevent gay adoption
A bill has reached the first stages of becoming law in the central American country of Costa Rica that would prevent gays, lesbians and bisexuals from adopting children.
The proposed amendment to Costa Rica's Family Code, the law regarding marriage, divorce, paternity and adoption, was agreed by all 57 elected members of the Legislative Assembly.
The bill bans adoption by individuals or gay and lesbian couples. It will now be debated.
Clary returns to the West End
Julian Clary will be replacing James Dreyfus to play the role of Emcee in The Lyric Theatre's production of Cabaret.
The comedian, TV presenter, actor and novelist is joining the cast of the hit musical from 2 October, returning to the West End after a successful run as Leigh Bowery in Boy George's musical Taboo in 2002.
Directed by Rufus Norris, the production celebrates its first year on 10 October. Julian is one of several cast changes.
British teams fly the flag at gay World Cup
This weekend four British football clubs will head to the 2007 International Gay and Lesbian Football Association World Soccer Championship in Argentina.
It is the first time Latin American country has hosted the event.
British teams Stonewall FC and Village Manchester will play in the competitive league while the two London rivals, Leftfooters and London Titans, will compete in the recreational division.
Brian Paddick was an undercover Lib Dem
Mayor of London candidate Brian Paddick has revealed he has always been a Liberal Democrat at heart, even in his former role as Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.
Mr Paddick, who spoke a conference event in Brighton yesterday said:
"Yes, I've been an undercover Liberal Democrat.
"Under that blue uniform there was a gold one. I'll leave that to your imagination."

BBC removes George Michael from HIV documentary
Pop star George Michael's appearance in new BBC documentary Stephen Fry: HIV and Me has been removed at his request.
During an interview in which the pop star was asked about his personal experiences relating to HIV, George commented that he does not do tests and hasn't had one since 2004 because he fears the results.
Host Stephen Fry then disagrees with him and takes a HIV test, which is negative, there and then to make his point.
Gay daughter changes mayor's mind on same-sex marriage
Yesterday the Republican Mayor of San Diego decided to sign the resolution to overturn Proposition 22, which some claim bans same-sex marriage in the state of California.
Jerry Sanders' last minute decision, which conflicts with his former campaign promises, reflects his "significant" change of opinion on the subject. Mr Sanders said:
"I have close family members and friends who are members of the gay and lesbian community. These folks include my daughter Lisa and her partner, as well as members of my personal staff."
