Study finds suicide more likely in those unsure of sexuality

Young people confused about their sexuality are most vulnerable to suicide, a study of university students has revealed.

The University of Washington research found that while gay, lesbian and bisexual participants are twice as likely as heterosexuals to have attempted suicide, those who still have issues with defining their sexuality are six times as likely.

Of the 528 participants, 79 of these identified themselves as same sex attracted heterosexuals.

A lesbian couple was arrested in Denver yesterday following their protest of Colorado's ban on same-sex marriages.

Sheila Schroeder, 43 and Kate Burns, 44, staged the sit-in protest in the Wellington E.Webb Municipal Building, when they were refused an application for a marriage licence from the Denver Clerk and Recorder Office.

The couple, who have been together for five years, took Rev. Mike Morran, their local minister from Denver's First Unitarian Church with them.

A bill has reached the first stages of becoming law in the central American country of Costa Rica that would prevent gays, lesbians and bisexuals from adopting children.

The proposed amendment to Costa Rica's Family Code, the law regarding marriage, divorce, paternity and adoption, was agreed by all 57 elected members of the Legislative Assembly.

The bill bans adoption by individuals or gay and lesbian couples. It will now be debated.

Julian Clary will be replacing James Dreyfus to play the role of Emcee in The Lyric Theatre's production of Cabaret.

BBC removes George Michael from HIV documentary

Pop star George Michael's appearance in new BBC documentary Stephen Fry: HIV and Me has been removed at his request.

During an interview in which the pop star was asked about his personal experiences relating to HIV, George commented that he does not do tests and hasn't had one since 2004 because he fears the results.

Host Stephen Fry then disagrees with him and takes a HIV test, which is negative, there and then to make his point.

“Today, Mayor Sanders and the City of San Diego have demonstrated that support for equality crosses party lines.“

Gay daughter changes mayor's mind on same-sex marriage

Yesterday the Republican Mayor of San Diego decided to sign the resolution to overturn Proposition 22, which some claim bans same-sex marriage in the state of California.

Jerry Sanders' last minute decision, which conflicts with his former campaign promises, reflects his "significant" change of opinion on the subject. Mr Sanders said:

"I have close family members and friends who are members of the gay and lesbian community. These folks include my daughter Lisa and her partner, as well as members of my personal staff."
