Shanghai landlords urged to shun same-sex couples
New rules are being drafted in Shanghai urging landlords not to rent rooms to same-sex partners, according to Reuters.
The city's housing bureau has issued a report advocating conservative restrictions on who should and should not be allowed to rent rooms.
In addition to same-sex couples, unmarried couples were also included in the ambiguous report which does not make clear whether the new rules would merely become guidelines or be enforced by law.
BBC celebrates 50th anniversary of Wolfenden report
The BBC is due to screen a week-long series of LGBT programmes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of the Wolfenden report.
The season is called Hidden Lives Week and programmes range from documentaries to drama.
The BBC say the programmes are intended to raise awareness of the landmark report that led to the legalisation of homosexuality in the UK.
The Wolfenden report was commissioned 50 years ago this coming Monday (3rd September).
Stonewall Cymru to 'Shout OUT' at Mardi Gras
Stonewall Cymru is launching a new community activism campaign ahead of Saturday's Mardi Gras in Cardiff.
The Shout OUT campaign will encourage the LGBT community to have their say about gay life in Wales and will tackle issues such as hate crimes, health care, education and employment.
Cardiff's Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras is set to draw massive crowds this weekend.
Reading to celebrate fourth annual Pride Festival
The fourth Reading Pride event is due to take place next weekend.
The event was set up to celebrate the LGBT community, to ensure a sense of belonging and build strong and positive relations between people of different backgrounds, whilst working towards equality and inclusion in Reading and its surrounding areas.
'Ambisexual' singer Mika nominated for music award
Chart-topping singer-songwriter, Mika, has been nominated for the prestigious BT Digital Music Awards 2007.
Under the category of 'Best Pop Artist in association with TV Hits', the Beirut-born singer will be up against Natasha Bedingfield, Simon Webb, Lil Chris and The Hoosiers for the award.
The 23-year-old's hit single Grace Kelly spent weeks at the top of the charts and his debut album Life In Cartoon Motion has sold half a million copies since it was released in February this year.
Transexual loses birth certificate court appeal
An Australian transsexual has lost a Federal Court appeal to have her birth certificate changed to alter her sex from male to female.
The woman, referred to as AB, completed her surgery to become female in April 2002.
AB, from Victoria, appealed to state's Federal Court in July 2005 to have her birth certificate changed from male to female.
Volunteers to clean up London's cruising grounds
GaydarRadio and the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) have joined forces on a mission to clean up two of London's most popular cruising grounds.
The Keep It Clean action day is set to take place in London this Sunday 2nd September.
GaydarRadio and THT are teaming up with LGBT police liaison officers and volunteers to promote the event.
Hampstead Heath and Clapham Common are famous cruising locations among gay men, as was popularised by the recent TV drama Clapham Junction.
AIDS epidemic threatens Papua New Guinea
Families are resorting to "live burials" of loved ones as a reaction to the rapid spread of the HIV in Papua New Guinea.
Margaret Marabe, a known local activist in the country, told the Agence France-Presse: "I saw three people with my own eyes. When they got very sick and people could not look after them, they buried them."
She explained that families are resorting to extreme action due to both feelings that they can no longer look after the sufferer and fears that the infection will spread to others.
Anglican bishop compares gay hate to slavery
The openly gay Bishop of New Hampshire has attacked the attitudes of homophobic African bishops in an interview with BBC Radio 4 this morning.
Gene Robinson spoke openly about his view on the current controversy surrounding the Anglican Church.
"It's very painful for me," he said. "Coming out of the experience of the United States, where we treated people from Africa as less than human."
Manchester celebrates Pride all weekend
An estimated 250,000 people took to the streets of Manchester last weekend to celebrate the culmination of eleven days of Pride events.
After 78 hours of partying at the Big Weekend, a solemn candlelit vigil was held to remember all those whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS yesterday.
The opening event of the weekend was a civil partnership ceremony for ten couples at Marriott Victoria Albert Hotel.
Iowa court rules that same-sex couples can marry
A district court in US state of Iowa has ruled in favour of same-sex marriage.
In response to a lawsuit brought by six same-sex couples seeking to wed, Judge Robert Hanson wrote in the ruling:
"Couples, such as plaintiffs, who are otherwise qualified to marry one another may not be denied licenses to marry or certificates of marriage or in any other way prevented from entering into a civil marriage pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 595 by reason of the fact that both persons compromising such a couple are of the same sex."
