For those of us who don't want lookie-likie, gay or straight, can't the difference marriages, it merely confirms what we wanted that civil partnerships are not marriages, they are something unique to gay people that is equivalent in the rights and responsibilities bestowed upon us.

It truly saddens me that we still have people in the gay community so insecure that they feel the need to ape and mimic ever last thing their straight counterparts engage in.

Jesus, we'll all be out dogging next …

It's totally unjust that gay couples who have married/entered into a civil partnership in one EU country can be in the position of not having that recognised in another EU country, when they might want to exercise their right to live and work elsewhere in the EU. You can't allow EU citizens extra rights if they happen to be straight (all EU marriages are recognised in all the member countries). That's discrimination. How is that being justified?
I always get the impression that some ostensibly decent politicians think that LGBT people are somehow less than human and worth less, so feel perfectly happy in denying them rights which they wouldn't dream of denying to people who, for example, had a different skin colour to them.

apYrs, you're right. For those of us who so wanted it, marriage was not an option when the socalled "consultation" took place to confer some of the rights of marriage via CPs. At least other countries are opting for full equality. By the way….you mentioned some time ago something about pensions regardig civil partnered couples not being in synch with the pension rights of straight married people. What is the situation on that one? If that is the case, why aren't they equal to the rights of straight married people?

and thus we see that CP is not the same as marriage, either in the UK or the EU.

Legal cohabitation is a favour granted to us while we're good, but not a right that is recognised fully and everywhere in the Union. It is apodge, to keep the Xians and other reactionaries happy while giving us a sop.

And Spain, a bastion of Catholicism, has same sex marriage – viva Espana
