In the USA, anal intercourse continues to be the primary transmission route of HIV infections for homosexuals. The CDC says there are 40,000 new infections each year and the rate of infection is climbing because many younger homosexuals are engaging in risky behaviors. Many have become complacent about the epidemic because of new drugs that control the progression of the disease. As a result, homosexuals are staying alive longer, and infecting more individuals. As of 1998, 54% of all HIV infections were homosexuals. An estimated 1 million Americans have been infected with HIV since it was first discovered in the 1980s, Risky sexual behaviors pose serious health problems , so why aren’t people more careful?

The Health Protection Agency says that approximately 1 in 20 gay men in the UK are living with HIV. They also estimate that 32,000 gay men are living with HIV. That would indicate that accordint to the Health Protection Agency there are 640,000 gay men in the UK. Assuming there are as many lesbians as gay men that would make the gay population about 2% of the entire population. INtertesting figures.
