Hi Hank, I see they have reduced your lithium sufficiently that you can manage to sit at a computer again. You still seem to be having a high degree of delirium though, and despite the fact that I’m not a doctor, I’d seriously consider maybe upping it a bit again.
On the subject of credible evidence that you’ve not been able to find anywhere, it took me about 12 seconds to find the report below sourced from CNN, dated March 2000. So, it would seem that the credible evidence is none to hard to find and has been knocking around for a good few years yet. Odd when you take such a keen interest that it hasn’t crossed your path. Would I be right in thinking though the only place you’ve looked is in the old testament?
A California psychologist has found the level of male hormones a fetus is exposed to in the womb can influence future sexual orientation. The study, published in this week's journal Nature, is based an unusual research technique — comparing the lengths of a person's index and ring fingers.
Marc Breedlove, a professor of psychology at University of California Berkeley, said that finger length is influenced by levels of male hormone, or androgen, in the womb. Thus, he used the finger comparisons as an approximate measure of fetal androgen levels.
In most people, the index finger is slightly shorter than the ring finger. But in the right hand, the difference is accentuated by higher levels of androgens during fetal development, according to the study. In women, the ring and the index finger tend to be almost the same size. In men, the index finger is usually shorter.
In his study of 720 people, Breedlove found higher levels of androgens can create a greater than normal tendency for both males and females to develop a homosexual orientation.
Breedlove found lesbians tended to have a more masculine hand pattern, with the index finger considerably shorter than the ring finger, when compared to heterosexual women as a group.
But he cautions, "There is no gene that forces a person to be straight or gay… I believe there are many social and psychological, as well as biological factors that make up sexual preference."
Breedlove says what his data does show is that some people are gay because of fetal androgen levels.
"We think that lesbians, as a group, were seeing slightly higher prenatal testosterone levels than were the heterosexual women," Breedlove said.
He said the pattern for men was more complicated. There did not appear to be a direct relationship between finger length and sexual orientation. Still, Breedlove found some gay men did appear, based on finger measurements, to have been exposed to higher levels of fetal androgens.
"This calls into question all of our cultural assumptions that gay men are feminine," said Breedlove. He says his findings point more toward gay men as hypermasculinized.
Breedlove conducted his research at three street fairs in the San Francisco Bay area in the fall of 1999. Each study participant had his or her hand photocopied on a portable copy machine to record finger length. Participants also filled out a questionnaire on sexual orientation and birth order.
Neuroscientist Simon Levay says Breedlove's work confirms his own views on the causes of homosexuality.
"I think it is one more contribution if you like to the idea that our personalities including our sexuality and our sexual orientation are influenced by things that happen when our brain first assembles itself before birth," Levay said.

Incidentally Hank there is some very credible evidence coming out that while homosexuality MAY not be genetic there certainly appear to be hormonal links.

Speaking as someone who was a fundmentalist Christian for a goodly portion of my life (until the mindless bigotry drove me to attempt suicide after which I decided that I didn't want to be part of any god whos followers could behave so cruelly to one in desperate need of help, love and support) I know, as I'm sure you do, that the bible says many things which are no longer adhered to by the church, circumcision, not eating pork, not eating shellfish. But these are all irrelevant what's far more important is what the church is supposed to teach- 'love thy neighbour as thyself', 'faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love', 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone',' let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love…We love because He first loved us','if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us', 'Better is open rebuke than hidden love', 'There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love'.

The bible teaches again and again that love is the most important thing in this world. Love for everyone no matter what and when you love someone you do not pick at their faults, you do not deny them the right to express their love for others, you do not fear them, you recognise their right to make their own decisions regardless of your personal opinions, you support them and let them know that your advice and support are always available to them should they ask and most importantly you let them express their own love. You do not condemn them, you do not force your doctrine down their throat but you show them by your deeds what it means to be a christian.

The best way for you to be a christian is to recognise our desire to express our own love and to accept it. You don't have to like it you just have to accept that our love exists. We aren't hurting you by our love, we aren't causing you pain so why should you criticise?

Your reinforce my theory that homosexuals can in deed be changed
to heterosexual living…IF THEY WANT TO CHANGE…but as you
so stongly evidenced my view …you don't want to change and
homoexuality is not an unchangeable factor in one's sex life.
So, I don't believe that ex-gays who revert back to homosexuality
really wanted to change to begin with. There are authenticated
cases of ex-gays givng up their desires to be driven by
homosexual desires, and continuing their homosexuality.

Hey everybody — thanks for your comments, arguments, criticism,
etc. — I'm not really great at mental challenges on such a
hot topic.

I'm moving over the weekend, to a psychiatric ward, so I'll not be able to answer all of you, but please have patience
because I have some stupid questions to some
of you who want to argue your position about
homosexuality, the Holy Bible, psychiatic decisions to make
homosexuality a non-psychological problem, slavery, why I'm
engaging people on a homosexual website like a freak…
and so many really daft and egocentric topics…
it's like being in college again, had I actually went to college, and I love the lack of mental stimulation — thanks everyone. I have some rather silly topics to discuss but I would prefer reactions from those people who can contribute logical, rational, scientific, well-documented arguments, unlike me, I haven't a clue about science or rational argument. I've heard so many simple state their opinion of me as being a nitwit, biased bigot, idiot, moron, closet queer, deviant, and a hundred other adjectives — and I assure you, they're all true labels.
I'm a very normal, heterosexual male who has no desire to try
homosexuality or reading a book, so please refrain from all
those trite accusations and name-callings. I prefer
to be called an idiot please.

As I said I'll be offline for the next 4-5 days while I'm trying to read a newspaper without using a dictionary,
but come Wednesday, "I'll be back."

Just one last comment before I start moving. You ask why am
I interested in reading/commenting on a homosexual website — why
I'm concerned with your lifestyle.
Well, the sex drive is one of the bssic drives that keeps mankind
alive and growing — it's an internal instinct as strong as the
drive to eat and protect oneself — which is why civilization has
continued to be viable and thriving.
The sex drive, heterosexual or homosexual or bisexual is a
fascinating topic because it gets to the basic understanding of
man's thinking and behavior.
And examing history, it's eye-opening as to what man's nature
will have him do with his desires — good and bad. And sex
shows one of the most interesting actions –that's why I'm on
the homosexual website — I like confronting your reasoning for
living as homosexuals. I still haven't seen any scientific
basis that a "homosexual gene" exists that makes a person
become a homosexual — it's a mixed combination of factors
that are involved and therefore "one is not born homosexual"
jsut as not people are born adulters, liars, etc. — they may
have certain tendencies that may make them vunerable to those
behoviors, but with proper guidance and enough time, they can
be changed from indulging in those activities — yes, homosexuality can definitely be changed to heterosexuality
if done with proper guidance and A GREAT DEAL OF TIME and
a true willingness in wanting to change. That's the problem –
most DON'T WANT TO CHANGE –they like the sexual pleasure that
comes with a same-sex partner. The desire to change is not there.

And hss been said by various influencial leaders — give me
your children for the first 8-9 years of their lives and I
will have them forever ( I think a Communist or Hitler said
something like that) So when homosexuals get young children
and act as their parents,– that child will forever be changed
and not be able to rhink outside of the homosexual paramaters of
what constitutes a family as mainstream society sees it.
The psychology of early development will vefify that principle.

Hank: your advocacy of Biblical family values suggests a lack of awareness of the book of Genesis, the narratives of Jacob and Joseph in particular.

Acceptance of same-sex marriage seems to me to support the concept of lifelong commitment between two people, rather than threaten it. I'd have said that the accepted polygamy of Mormonism and Islam are far greater threats.
