George Michael cut from Brits following drug arrest
Pop star George Michael has been dropped from the Brit Awards 2009 due to his recent arrest for drugs offences.
The singer, 45, was reportedly going to be honoured with the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, but organisers of the awards ceremony are now said to be searching for a different candidate to give the award to.
Michael was arrested in August and found in possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was released with a caution, prompting criticism of the Metropolitan Police from Conservative MP Ian Duncan Smith.
Michael has talked openly about his cannabis use in the past, and last year even smoked it during a recorded TV interview with ITV's The South Bank Show.
Throughout 2006 and 2007, Michael was regularly in the headlines over various drug related incidents.
He was cautioned twice for possessing cannabis when he was found asleep behind the wheel of his car on two separate occasions.
