Lesbian rock icon Melissa Etheridge is getting married.

She told US celebrity TV show Extra that she intends to tie the knot with girlfriend Tammy Lynn Michaels.

"Yes, we have four children and we're trying to find the right time," she said.

Ms Ethelridge, 47, an Oscar and two-time Grammy winner, was among the panellists who put questions Democratic Presidential hopefuls in the first ever Presidential debate on LGBT issues presented jointly by Logo and the Human Rights Campaign in August 2007.

Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot in November.

It would amend the state Constitution to "eliminate right of same-sex couples to marry."

In May the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriages in the state.

The Court voted 4 to 3 to strike down the ban.

SInce then celebrities such as Star Trek actor George Takei and comedian Ellen Degeneres have tied the knot.
