apYrs and odd that Muslims on the subcontinent were tolerant of same-sex attraction….hmmmmmm….I wonder jus how true that really is.

oh dear… the sound of right wing hetrosexual men using politics to disassociate themselves from anything that weakens their own image in the eyes of their peers.
Indian politics is famously profundly corrupt and yet prides itself on being the biggest democracy in the world. So the fact that they could discuss such ideas as gay equality to the point of not letting it through rings true to the context.
It might be worth pointing out that it was the British who encouraged anti-gay laws during their colonial period in many countires around the world. The British introduced the culture of shame, crime, sickness and the taboo of being anti-christian and therefore primative & uncivilised in behaviour.
However for 1000s of years, Hindu culture has been perhaps the most accepting of mystical practices regarding the approach to sex, often seen as yet another potential path to enlightment or mystical union. When sex is discourgaed, it is done so as much as any other desire, where all desire is seen as an obstacle to true union with God, with no particular history of singling out same gender sexual union in particular.
