Good! More asylum seekers whoudl be repatriated. they are bleeding our society to death and as tax payer I am sick of it. They shoudl not come here and epxpect to stay. Illegal is illegal. Well done BMI and the government

While I applaud Alex's optimism about Azerbaijan, his comments don't seem to be in accord with many reports from various human rights organisations that seem to urge caution in taking the country at face value – even as a 'nominal democracy'. Of course, given the energy resources and strategic importance to the West of the country's location, human rights may not be of any great importance to the Government. The ability of successive British governments to ignore cautionary notes and turn a blind eye when given the briefest sniff of petroleum ceased to amaze me ages ago. The continuation of that strategy when it has had such problematic results over the years still leaves me stumped.

Paul, honestly, I don't believe it. Azerbaijan is relatively modern country (don't confused it with some of its neightbours, like Iran), so he should be safe (and one assumes he will be able to live separately from his family in his age!).

Azerbaijan is not that homophobic. One should remember that unlike most other Islamic countries it was part of atheist USSR until 1991 and even now religion is not that strong in there. He certainly won't be killed or tortured – and his life is not in danger.

Yep, Michael Bishop – chairman of BMI – is openly gay, albeit not tremendously vocal about it. He's also an open supporter of the Conservative Party, so I guess the Tory and Labour policies on getting rid of asylum seekers to satisfy Daily Mail editors could be more important to him than potentially transporting gay men to their deaths. Alternatively, the decision might have been made lower down the corporate ladder without him being consulted. Perhaps someone ought to ask him?

Yes, Bill. Don't expect much to change when Cameron is elected either, more of the same, maybe more. Obviously, respect for human rights doesn't count when you're a gay asylum seeker, we're fare game and fodder, its always been that way and it will always be that way. Xenophobia and homophobia are alive and well in the west and condoned by the self-loathing gay xenophobes and others who support racist and homophobic policies of their governments, labour or conservative, democrat or republican.
