I hate to say it, but I think what Bass said sounds like internalized homophobia on his part. Why would it look silly that two men were dancing together. If they were good…really good…why wouldn't it look sexy? Imagine Colin Farrell jumping up and dancing with a male partner! Maybe the real issue is, rather than Bass being the celebrity to lead the way with a male dance partner (or at least that gay people perceived would lead the way), the show should pick someone else…

It would become an issue but maybe he should put himself forward to be that person who breaks the mould ? He speaks of his responsibility to other gay people but he won't break the stereotype. Sure, if you aren't used to dancing – particularly with the same sex, it would feel strange and awkward at first. But those feelings should disappear as the skill and energy needed kick in. So overall, sorry, but his stance is very lame. No points for hardly trying. Good luck anyway.

What is sad is that this is even an issue. The fact that it would overshadow the event kind of shows how far we have yet to go. I want to live in a world where nobody minds if I dance with a guy in a straight venue, or on a tv show.

He has a point, unfortunately; it would be seen as tokenism and something of a freakshow. Besides, who's to say gay guys can't dance with girls – I know I do it plenty.
