BOR 11S or 2 GAY? Personalised number plates up for auction
The Mayor of London could be interested in a number plate which will go to the highest bidder at an auction in Cambridgeshire later this month.
BOR 11S could be ideal for Mayor Johnson, though he is known more for his love of bicycling than motoring.
Given that so many of his City Hall team are homosexuals, perhaps he could purchase the plate 2 GAY as a special treat for one of them.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has released both plates for sale.
For the more romantically minded car owners KUP 1D is up for grabs, as is LUS 5T and TAB 101D.
1,500 plates will be sold off at the auction at the Haycock Hotel in Wansford, Cambridgeshire starting on September 24th.
The DVLA has previously hit the headlines for banning some number plates.
In 2006 MP Chris Bryant demanded that the DVLA withdraw H8 GAY, which was owned by a gay couple.
Mr Bryant said: "If the DVLA sold H8 JEW or H8 WOG, there would rightly be a public outcry.”
It later emerged that the DVLA have an Ethnic Minority Action Group that has been consulted over new plates.
It decided that MO57 EMM and MU57 UM will not be issued, as they appear to spell out the word 'Muslim.'
