For what it's worth, Subway is headquartered here in New England, where anti-gay discrimination is illegal. But, as Jim pointed out, Subway doesn't actually run any of their restaurants – they're all independently owned and operated, so I'm not sure there's much they could do to this particular restaurant short of revoking the owner's franchise license or whatever, which I don't see happening over a porn star firing. And that's what this is really about – the guy was fired because of his past as a sex worker, not because of his orientation (or in this case perceived orientation, since he's apparently married with kids and doesn't claim to be gay). People get in hot water with their employer over doing straight porn, too. Yes, this kind of attitude towards the sex industry is stupid and hypocritical and I'd love to see everyone get the hell over it, but it's really not the same thing as discrimination against someone because of their sexual orientation.

Actually, the Subway Corporation had nothing to do with it. Every Subway restaurant is a independently owned and operated. I will still go to Subway, but I won't go to that one!

I most definitely agree with those who question how that customer knew that the kid did porn (not that it's any of his or her business) and again with those who question how doing 1 porn movie affects his ability to make a sandwich which, in my humble opinion, has no bearing on it. Even I, as culinarily challenged as I am, could do it.

There ARE laws protecting gay citizens from job related discrimination but not all states have such laws on their books. In a conservative state as Missouri, often referred to in America as red states in which this young man lives and works, I doubt if there are many laws protecting LGBT people in any red state. All of them, 27 I believe, prohibit same-sex marriage and most of them want to remove any legal recognition for their gay citizens.

Rob Neal….regarding meatball sandwiches, to add some comic relief. Here in New York City which has a huge Italian-American population, meatball "heroes" (for British readers, a hero sandwich is an elongated roll) are on virtually all Pizzeria menus. They are balls of meat that have been traditionally cooked in a tomato sauce, sometimes along with Italian sausages until tender often eaten with spaghetti (which never originated in Italy but became part of the Italian-American culinary tradition). Most meatball heroes that I've seen often have mozzarella on them then gently heated to melt the cheese. Its not a sandwich I would recommend for the weight conscious, as delicious as it is. Its indigenous to New York City but has spread throughout the state and elsewhere.

I agree with zazou – funny how he happened to know his local Subway sandwich chef happened to be a gay porn actor in a former life… surely you'd need a pretty encyclopedic knowledge of gay porn to figure that one out by yourself. Well gee Mildred, maybe if Subway bothered to pay their employees a living wage they wouldn't have to do porn in the first place. Hank if they did that would their management be able afford all their cushy little extras the company pays for would they? what about all their stock holders and the penny's they get for their investment? That may be true Mildred and how about all the millions they spend on their useless advertisements? How would anyone even know they exist?

It's wrong what Subway did. I am surprised however that someone can go from a career in porn to a career in fast food. Doesn't it normally work the other way round. This guy shouldn't have been fired but I also think people should be aware that this type of negative reaction may occur when your work involves exchanging money for sex.
