Comments on: France to ask UN for universal decriminalisation of homosexuality

This is a visionary call for implementing the universal human rights enshrined in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The French minister's call may not be immediately embraced by those countries hiding behind regressive political and religious ideologies, but it will have an impact. As well, her voice as the voice of the French people will carry great historical weight and precedent. May her call be the first of many to advocate for true universal social equality for gay people.

Not a chance. Gays are persecuted by law in every islamic country (with the exception of Turkey which has a secular constitution).

We have the nutters openly calling for our death in this country (where they are not yet a majority).

I'm sure the EUSSR will allow them a get out clause.

Good for France. Even with a more conservative President, they are doing the right thing. What we need is a pact that countries that discriminate legally against gay people will be treated as pariahs, their products tariffed, etc.

Now if only the warmonger, my country, that gave the world Iraq, and even worse let Bin Laden escape due to that terrible error, would join with France.

One grave error: countries like Iran and Indonesia have the death penalty on the books for homosexuality!
As do some other arab islamic countries have the death penalty on the books!
