Adrian T, as a gay woman I appreciate the essence of the point that you are trying to make. However, I find your comment to be outrageously offensive. In supporting our own minority community you are insulting another- people with learning difficulties.
You seem to be confusing people who have special needs with those who are ignorant and bigoted. All you are really proving is that narrow-minded, limited people exist in all walks of life, including the gay community. Well done!

The Log Cabin group – are they fuelled by some kind of sado masochistic desire to be downtrodden and treated like slaves? Or is it just proof that retards are to be found in all communities, including gay ones.

Free markets (actually domination by unrestrained multinationals), low taxes (especially for the rich), let the poor and the old go hang and devil take the hindmost…Folks of all sexualities can be found supporting this sort of thing on both sides of the pond, but the lgbt ones I know to whom they appeal seem convinced that they can be had without belonging to parties stuffed with social reactionaries and bigots of every kind. Theoretically possible, I suppose, but a lack of economic empathy tends to go with other kinds… A gay lawyer I once knew who was much more Thatcherite than the Iron Lady herself was astonished at the blatant homophobia and racism of the local Tory party he joined – surely a little like being surprised that it rains in Llandudno?

DW, gay republicans actually believe they can change their party from within. Most of them believe in lower taxes, economic stability, privatisation of all government run programs, do not believe in universal health care (a national health care system for all) and believe that marriage equality is very low, in fact the least important matter in the pecking order of things. They are willing to sacrifice that as long as they can accumulate as much wealth as possible and avoid paying their fair share of taxes or not paying any at all. I often ask them what they would do if they lost all their possessions, wealth, home, job…how would they access health care without health insurance? They can never give me a straight answer but shrug it off saying its merely a hypothetical question yet their leaders get free health care once they retire, for life I might add, at taxpayers' expense. Most of them have never suffered discrimination and many of them hide in the closet and pass themselves off as straight. Their party is notorious for the doublestandard and hypocrisy. If McCain is elected, serves the dumb American electorate right! Four more years of failed Bush policies plunging America back to the top of the laughing stock list, if its not there already!

The fact that anyone buys what the Republicans are selling amazes me. But I'm astounded that gay Republicans even exist. Not one issue voters? Shouldn't this issue, one's own personal freedom and right to be just as they are, be THE primary issue? Sorry Log Cabin folks, you make no sense.

What Patrick Sammon, head of the Log Cabin group is not telling you is that Gay rights come last. It is true, McCain opposed a federal amendment to ban same-sex marriage, BUT…..he recently stated that he believes that marriage is distinctly between one mn and one woman and that marriage is the only relationship wherein children must be raised. He opposed gay couples adopting children. If gay republicans, an oxymoron if ever there were believe that is equality, then they need their heads examined.
