My thoughts about hate crimes came to mind after watching Deepra Chopra comment on the subject of homophobia in his broadcasts. As I read about Robert Burns' life and character and the deep seated homophobia mentioned about about in Scotland I couldn't help but imagine the extent of the problem for a culture that embodies the character and behaviour of the Burns legend to be a role model (icon) for its citizens. With his great contribution to Scotlands' culture, I wonder if he would even be remembered, or would have even lived to 37, if he had been gay. In Canada, assault of any kind, against anyone, for any reason, is treated by the authorities immediately with no debating on the issue. Good luck with your efforts. JK
