Lesbian rapper nominated for community award

DJs, gay health promotion groups and performers are among the nominees for the Black LGBT Community Awards.

“The awards act as an opportunity to celebrate all of those who contribute to the lives of Black LGBT people in the UK and beyond,” said Rob Berkeley, chair of the Black Gay Men’s Advisory Group.

“These awards are made even more special because the nominations have come from Black LGBT people and the awards are made by the public, through voting online.”

Woman of the year nominees are community activist Phyll Opoku-Gyimah and rapper Mz Fontaine.

Man of the year nominees are Gamal G Turawara, Simon Nelson and Ajamu.

LGBT History Month is nominted for Advocacy group alongside Kairos in Soho, LGBT Muslim group Imaan and the UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group.

Club of the year nominees are Bootylicious, Soul Naturelle, Club Caribana, Sugar Rush and Work @ Heaven.
