That article is a complete fiction. I've been keeping tabs on what has been said about Wanna Bet online, and I haven't come across any gay insinuations at all. Plus, that interview was given before Wanna Bet aired, so it was hardly 'in response' to anything. This is just the British tabloids trying to stir something up, as usual.

I don’t get it. So, if the show has low ratings “it must be cause they look like gays” and not because well, the show is not good enough. What they did was pathetic. May be they are not partner like one fucking each other, but hell, they are really campy.
But campiness is not wrong. What sucks if they being cowards.
