as some one who lives in very rural area in the uk. Where the nearest gay bar is an hour and a half away. Also the fact that i am nearly 50 and dont want to hang around in a bar any way. Esp as the gay community as a whole is very offensive towards older gay people. I fully support gay crusing areas. NOT sex in public toilets. But areas that we can meet, where contrary to belief, sex does not take place all the time. As these pages on the pink news report time and time again how little equailty we still have and how far we as a minorty have to go these places will still be used and needed in the gay community. If I as a gay man can walk into ANY bar, meeting place, cafe etc etc and talk to a guy , without the fear of an adverse reaction. Which could result with me being attacked. Then close every cruising area down now. But we are far from that ideal. I have made many friends from my local cruising area. We have built up a community of support. We look out for each other and advise. The last time I was in a gay bar , I was ridiculled and heard all the time "out of the way granddad". Not pleasent and boring in the end. So before we all condeme this behaviour, question the reasoning behind it. What did this man have to lose, that made him scared to come out. His family, his career, his life? Questions your average straight person never has to ask. Something we have to consider daily.

I think sexual activity with another man in a public place in one thing, but I would be more anxious if I were he newly wedded wife as reported in the sun, as another source claims to have seen him in a clinch with another man in very well-known gay establishment only recently too.

Its further confirmation, although none was needed, that the homophobia that permeates the Conservatives and their cousins in the DUP and the US Republican Party inevitably produces grotesque caricatures of gay men like Benson.

They deserve our pity because they’ve built their career in a homophobic party and our contempt because they don’t have the guts or the brains to free themselves. But if they had guts or brains they wouldn’t be Conservatives in the first place, now would they.
