A US Senate candidate has claimed that gay singer Elton John and Dick Cheney's daughter should be sentenced to death because of they are homosexuals.

Democratic candidate, Merrill Keiser, appeared on a popular US podcast ,where he repeated previously reported views that homosexuality should be punishable by death.

He answered questions from The Edge Show host Chad Larson, stating that Sir Elton should be killed if he didn't repent for being gay.

The host asked, "Obviously, he's not repenting, should he be killed?"

Mr Keiser replied, "Well he's worthy of death."

Later on in the interview he implied that the lesbian daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney should be killed if she didn't repent or should be drugged, he said: "Well, how else are you going to do it?"

In Britain the politician could have faced criminal charges for inciting murder with his comments.

Host Chad Larson: Elton John, he comes to the state of Ohio, he's gay and proud, you want him dead? Should he be killed?

Candidate Merrill Keiser: I would prefer that he repent

Larson: Obviously, he's not repenting, should he be killed?

Keiser:Well he's worthy of death

Larson: How about Mary Cheney? How about the vice president's daughter? Should she be

killed? Should she be killed, sir, if she does not repent?

Keiser: You know the important thing is they are facing the second death

Larson: Of course, but in your perfect world, should Mary Cheney be killed for her being a homosexual?

Keiser: If she's not going to repent.

Larson: Then she should be killed?
