Reading between the lines, and being gernerous at that, it would seem that the somewhat absurd concession of keeping all the bishops is more about saying if we kick out all the bishops, then we feed into the current maelstrom about the worldwide Anglican schism ie. We affirm that yes, the Head of the Anglican Church is no longer relevant in terms of maintaioning power.
Secondly, it touches on issues concerning the continuing relevance and previlidges of the Royals in Britian, where the "Supreme Governer" of the C of E is Lizze herself. It appears that the Queen can still intervene in matters of national democracy, in this present situation, where her religious title has disallowed the possibility of a complete reform of the House Of Lords under this proposal.

Instead of having a possible referedum on the Treaty of Lisbon, you should invest on having a referendum to decide whether to keep or scrap the House of Lords. The question should be the following: "Do you agree to keep the House of Lords, to have it partially Elected and keep to the Church of England representation?"

Well, to be honest I am from Portugal and we have a Single Chamber Parliament, which works pretty well. Some Nations needs an upper Chamber to guarantee democracy, but I don't really think this is the case of the United Kingdom.

I've been advocating this for years, long before PinkNews existed. Abolish the House of Lords, its anachronistic, undemocratic and runs counter to what democracy is all about. No unelected official should have a say in legislation, let alone vote against our rights. Either make them all electable or abolish it. As for bishops…..they have NO place in the political system, boot them out altogether and while we're at it, get rid of state religion once and for all, another anachronism and exercise in futility. Nothing but a bunch of parasites sponging off the tax payers, Gay tax pounds included that prop up their lives of comfort and privilege while supporting discrimination against us. The worst kind of hypocrisy ever.

Religion trumps democracy. The pusillanity of politicians sickens me. Well they're either cowards or their allowing their Xianity to inluence their partisan decisions? Why not put it to a referendum?

I can't believe this. If hereditary peers have no place in the House of Lords then I am equally sure that Bishops don't either. Lets get rid of them playing any significant part at all in the legislature of this country, AS OF RIGHT. Who says so?
