This is fantastic news, and a real sign of the times that the Irish Queer Archives are being accepted as part of the National Library, bringing LGBT studies to a national level.

On a side note, if ever there was a sign of change in this country, I was walking through Temple Bar in the city centre of Dublin recently (Temple bar is supposed to be our "cultural" quarter, but its really an excuse to have loads of bars door to door for tourists and stag/hen nights), and I was amazed to see one of the traditional "straight Irish bars" there, the Oliver St John Gogarty, flying a huge Pride flag for Pride Week. Outside a gay bar, I'd expect, but for a traditional Irish bar to be doing the same is a great example of change in this country. It has also to be noted that the Dublin City Council are flying Pride flags all along the Liffey, which again something you would not have seen back in 1991. Now, if only our government would deliver its promise to legislate on some kind of partnership rights that at least would be a REAL move in the right direction.
