Just how many people and individuals lives is he government going to ruin and destroy before it accepts that all nations are not as liberal or tolerant as those in Europe?
How many lives, and blood on its hand, for it is no better than the regimes that enforce the punishment is it going to take Britain to realise that Homosexuality is just as much a fundamental Human Right as any other and do the right thing and grant asylum to immigrants who are persecuted just for their sexuality.
The Government cannot expect that each and every individual case be argued on its individual merit, and the stance that they are safe as long as they are discreet is starting to wear thin and sound like a broken record.
Do the Right thing, and show the world that like our fellow European allies Britain has compassion and put the Great back into the name.

It wouldn't matter which party is in office, they'd still be treated the same way. How the apologists for the Home Office, both labour and tory alike dispute genuine gay-related cases have to ask themselves, why would any man or woman fleeing persecution declare that they are gay, knowing that their quest for asylum would probably be denied as in most cases, and deportation would result in their possible deaths upon return to their native countries? Do they all have a death wish? I think not! The cynics can skew it all they want, this is more about homophobia than human rights and the violations thereof. If this man is returned and faces torture or execution, the government and apologists for this inhumane policy will have blood on their hands and be complicit in a crime against humanity.

we should pressure all governments of those country's to respect human rights.each individual should live freely in his own country .
i the mean time it is our civilized duty to help in these cases.and keep working on the core issue of freedom across the globe .
and teach the leaders of those county's when they come to visit us

the way this government treats those fleeing persecution because of their sexuality is abhorrent. ive visited a number of people in detention centres in the uk. locked up for months while they await deportation. many of these have been gay and while the government has believed them about this and about the fact that they have suffered persecution, they've deported them anyway, telling them to go and live in another part of the country and hide their sexuality. of course as neesha points out in her comments this option isnt open to babi because he's a well known artist. to send him back would be inhumane.

but that's exactly what immigration controls are. ways of separating those that are deserving and those that aren't. those that can stay (usually wealthy, white…) and those that must be forcibly deported. we need to fight for a world were all are free to move and stay where ever they choose and for whatever reasons.

oh they'll be those that object to this as utopian. but its far more utopian to believe that we can ever have immigration controls that are fair.

Honestly, I really do despair of this government; and they are the ones that introduced equality legislation and civil partnerships. The tragedy here illustrates the mess this government are in. Nobody at the top appears to be willing to provide some leadership in the area of gay asylum cases.

I think it's disgraceful the way this government have treated this man, he is openly gay and an internationally renowned artist making him a massive target for persecution from his government. It would be inhumane to send this man back to definite persecution and unknown future. I have signed the online pettion and I plead other people who have compassion for a homosexual man who has not the freedoms we have in this country to do the same.
