It's expected that many New York gay couples will flock to California this summer to marry, and then flock right back to New York to get some long-awaited marital benefits back home. How are airlines preparing? By replacing seatback copies of "Skymall" with copies of "Details," see more here: http://www.236.com/news/2008/05/29/airlines_preparing_for_gay_sum_6823.php

Scott, its going to change, after California abandoned domestic partnerships, its only a question of time before New Jersey abandons civil unions and probably so too will Vermont and Connecticut. New York state already has had marriage equality legislation passed by the democratic state assembly, but the republican controlled state senate which leads by a small majority will have none of it. Its a question of time before it finally becomes law. Now that New York State has become the first to recognize same-sex marriages performed in Massachusetts, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Spain and South Africa, you will start to see other states following suit. The horse is permanently out of the barn, no going back.

Great news! I was born in Albany NY and lived in NY till I was 19. Now living in the Wisconsin, the first state in the nation with a statewide Gay Rights bill in the mid 80s, it's disheartening to see Wisconsin regressing while so many other states are progressing. And of course we have an unconstitutional Federal Law that prevents Federal recognition of Gay Marriages. There is such a mish mash of laws and arrangements, that it's far easier still to just move to Canada or Spain.
