Rainbow flag will fly over Plymouth on Pride
The flag of the gay community will fly from Plymouth Guildhall this year for the first time, to mark the city’s prideevent.
The south west’s largest gay gathering has free entry and boasts a range of activities, star appearances and other attractions.
It will be held on June 7th.
Last month the city's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans residents will used a Rainbow Flag theme for their entry in this year's Lord Mayor’s parade.
Among the attractions this year’s prideevent will be an LGBT communities’ history exhibition, including Holocaust Memorial Day and a play based on the memories of older lesbians and gay men, and a Pride Party in The Swallow public house, which then continues into the night in Zeros nightclub.
Police, health, and city council representatives will take part in a public question forum and there will be women’s and men’s sexual health workshops and legal workshops, including civil partnerships and inheritance law.
There will also be a host of fun activities including belly dancers, rodeo bull, sumo suits, a bungee run, line dancing and street and circus skills entertainers.
Among the entertainers that have been booked is boy band Billiam, who are the official support act for Girls Aloud Tangled Up tour 2008.
There will also be performances by Madonna tribute singer Sarah Devonshire, top cabaret act Lizzy Drip, and samba band Crooked Tempo.
Local commercial radio station Plymouth Sound will be broadcasting live coverage of the event throughout the day, which runs from 10.45am to 4pm.
Plymouth Teaching Primary Care Trust, which is one of the main sponsors of this year’s event, is running an interactive ‘health village.’
