The primarily party line votes in support of the homophobic and misogynist amendments by Tory Iain Duncan Smith in favor of christian daddyhood were rightly rejected by the saner majority. The Tories claimed “that significant social problems are caused by the lack of a father …”

The tories are, as usual, dead wrong. Their misbegotten parenting theories are based on homophobia, misogyny, superstitious (religion). They’re a throwback to the medieval attempts to provide a patriarchal succession for their (ill gotten) wealth. The results of their aborted misconceptions about parenting can be readily in the children they unleash on an unsuspecting world.

Take the case of Little Markie Thatcher, devout christian son of Margaret, and product of a beefy christian daddy/mommy family unit. Markie made a career in the oil business. That is, he made it his business to plunder oil from Africans and to steal the wages of oil workers and overcharge oil consumers. Worse still, when he resided here in the US little Markie was associated with several US “security-related companies”, that is to say mercenaries friendly to another notorious christian oilman, George Bush.

Little Markie was finally brought to justice when the SA police arrested him for plotting to overthrow President Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, which coincidentally is sub-Saharan Africa's third largest oil producer. The SA police said “We are investigating him on charges of contravening the Regulation of Foreign Military Assistance Act. This is in relation to the possible funding and logistical assistance in relation to the attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea.” Little Markie pled guilty and ran home to Iron Mommy.

It’s just a thought but while they’re at it maybe the law could be changed to permit parenting only by those trained by licensed lesbian and gay parenting experts, who can urge that children be raised in an atmosphere free of unwholesome religious superstitions and the social burdens caused by protecting wealth stolen from working people and underdeveloped nations.

If we’d done that here in the US maybe we could have avoided spawning the world’s worst christian conservative monster, George Bush, the genocidal oil pirate who’s now the most unpopular President in US History. And that’s not an easy award to win.

Dominick, these right wingers and religious bigots would go as far as supporting a straight couple wherein one is abusive to a child rather than have a gay couple raising a child in a loving home giving them as much opportunity if not more that available in some straight households. That's the ugly truth about these neocons on both sides of the Atlantic. They never discuss the issue of child abuse either physical or sexual, not when its a straight couple. Its nothing more than homophobia, blatantly so thats at the root of all this.

I just think the lead in is misleading, it should have read differently-----You may not Need the father But you sure as hell Need his sperm!
OK it is the truth that It's NOT necessary to have a Father involved in raising children for Gay women and it's not necessary to have a Mother to raise children for Gay Fathers. That has always been a Religious Right Myth!

As a gay man I do believe fatherhood is important. We all benefit from good father role models. And Robert's comments above are honestly mean spirited and stuck in his own pain and anger. To say children are not a gift of God speaks candidly of his atheism and people of all faiths outnumber his belief at least 7 to 1. And as to not being able to speak one's religious beliefs well Robert then why don't you silence your own beliefs for thankfully we have freedom of expression, freedom of faith or lack there of and it benefits us all.

But in saying all this I do believe that if a woman desires to have a child then if she has the love, time and money to raise a child whether single or in a relationship (gay or straight) she should be able to do such. My hopes would be that if a man is not in her life that some good men family or friends can be around to be a healthy role model. In the same way if two gay men choose to raise children I hope that some family or friends who are women are there to be around for them as well.

Veteran Tory MP Sir Patrick Cormack clashed with MPs of his own party when he claimed that he has many lesbian and gay friends who agree with him that children are God-given and that lesbian or gay couples are not able to raise a child as well as a heterosexual couple.

Typical right wing response and I bet he knows no lesbian or gay people either. I can't imagine a gay couple would say such a thing. Since when are children a gift of God? How arrogant! So I suppose he now has to say that single windowed mothers can't raise a child as well as a couple with a mother and a father. What a moron! As for Iris Robinson, she should keep her religious beliefs to herself, they have no place in politics nor should they influence the outcomes of legislation. They sound just like the conservative republicans in the U.S. absolutely no difference.
