Aodhan, I worked for the Labour Party when Ken was booted out and still there when he forced his way back in, hardly screaming and kicking as I recall. I also had a bird’s eye view of much of what happened in between. He knew what he was getting himself into and I’m sure he had his reasons for doing so. All of Ken’s achievements were as an independent mayor, in his second term he was mired with the same s**t the rest of the party got covered in. In his desperation to be re-accepted by the Labour Party he forsook all the values that got him the job in the first place.No, I haven’t read his book – I didn’t know he’d written one to be honest.In answer to wossname, I did in my last posting say ‘in the last couple of years’ – I think the saga of the Hamiltons erupted in 1997, so doesn’t really fall under the ‘last couple of years’. As for Derek Conway who paid his son a lot of money for very little work, he I think makes my point – immediately the story broke he was booted out of the party. I don’t recall anything similar happening to Lee Jasper, Harriet Harmon, Miranda Grell, Peter Hain, Hilary Benn, Douglas Alexander or various of their cronies, when investigations commenced into their financial comings and goings.

Does the name Hamilton ring a bell, Sister Mary? Far from alone in Tory sleeze. Lets see, what was the name of the Tory MP who paid his son loads of dosh to work for him but whose son did lift a finger? Loads of others and the only tory axe ever lifted was to try and stop investigations of these crooks.

Please Sister Mary Clarence, have you bothered to look even slightly at Ken's biography, to try and tar him with the same brush as new Labour is a disgusting injustice.May I remind you that Livingstone was banned from running as a Labour candidate by the very new Labour Tony Blair – the man who is actually responsible for the debacles you list above.Ken was one of the few principled politicians still left in Labour, it is tragic to see him loose this election, particularly to a man like Boris Johnson – that really is adding insult to injury.

As far as gays are concerned, Ken's main gaff was kissing the arse of the Islamic cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi and adding insult to injury by refusing to recognise the clear evidence of that fright's homophobia.Let's hope that Boris has more sense.

I think if you look at the two main parties performances in dealing with scandal and improper conduct over the last couple of years, that alone should be reason enough to get Labour out of the mayoral seat.Cash for honours, loans undeclared to the Electoral Commission, donations under false names, donations from property developed alleged in payment for support of controversial property developments, top slicing councillors (council tax funded) allowances to bolster party funds, Lee Jasper and his (now arrested) crooked cronies, Miranda Grell and her libelous allegations of paedophilia against a gay opposition councillor, list is enormous.I don’t think there has been a single occasion when Labour have held their hands up and said either that they had made a mistake, or that they were sorry.The Conservatives on the other hand have swung the axe at the first sniff of any trouble, which there is no denying there has been, but nonetheless it has been dealt with quickly and decisively.London has voted against the steady march of corruption that has overcome the Labour Party.

Oh please! This idiots only connection with London has been working for tory rags or as an MP for Henley and that's only because he has to come to Westminster to vote.Hardly gives him much experience to run a place like London, not that he'll have much time for it, seeing as how he intends to keep his Henley seat as well as run London. What a joke!
