Yeah, but its a pity the south of Ireland can't get its head out of the sand and do something similar... thank god for Poland. If it wasn't for them, the Republic of Ireland would be nothing more then the backward cousin of the EU when it comes to gay rights.

As someone who grew up in Northern Ireland, and now living in Liverpool - I just want to say how glad i am that laws such as this are being brought into line with the rest of the UK.Northern Ireland wants to move forward and this is certainly a positive progress. On the issues of sexuality i would have to say that attitudes in Northern Ireland towards LGBT people are quite old fashioned - something i think along the lines of the attitude of people here in England about 20 years ago - where it is still a taboo... I know it is improving all the time - so I am definitely for anything that will help this, and I'm sure the change in the law should have a positive impact. And with the announcement of very large investment recently from the US, lets hope that Northern Ireland can leave its troubled past behind it, and be the Country it can be - and that more people can be openly gay, and help modernise those old fashioned attitude which are still lurking around.Chris, Liverpool
