Brings to mind a speech a former teacher gave before leaving; the gist of which was that if you don't show up and vote, those with the more extreme views certainly will. Scary. I'd like to grow up in a world (well, UK) that becomes more and more tolerant as I go, not the other way around…

Mr Barnbrook told the BBC: "You can be gay behind closed doors, you can be heterosexual behind closed doors, but you don't bring it onto the streets, demanding more rights for it."It seems to me that the "more rights" are the "more rights" that heterosexuals already have… have about equal rights for all people. If marriage is one of these "more rights" maybe the government should not recognize any marriage?

Luke, I absolutely agree with you. Extremist politics from whatever side, whether it be send me back where I came from (which is Tooting to be strictly accurate), or robbing the rich to give to the poor, each present their own dangers to us.The BNP presents a clear and present danger to gay people, but the Left List (SWP, Respect, Real Respect, and whatever else they’re calling themselves this week) are a bit more subtle about it. Reading the manifesto the Loony Left List are all very pro-gay, and pro every other cause célèbre that you can think of, but on closer inspection several of these seem to be at odds with each other. Gay equality will understandably not feature high on the agenda when most of your support comes from the Muslim community, fooled into thinking the party (or composite of several parties) give two sh*ts about the war in Afghanistan or Iraq.Mercifully a few wasted protest votes are unlikely to change the results. The news about Ken’s donations from property developers has finally started to break, so that’s another nail in his coffin too.

What worries me about all of this is that extremism thrives during periods of adversity. In Britain, we are on the verge of economic hardship which will last a couple of years, and a bossy, micromanaging government that doesn't listen to, or trust its citizens. I think this is a toxic combination that further alienates and disempowers people. I would like to think that the British are sensible enough to understand this. I certainly hope so.As for the BNP, well it can be said that they are only articulating the prejudices and fears of a particularly nasty underbelly of our society. Without that underclass of wasters, the BNP wouldn't exist at all.

Of course no one wants the extremist parties such as the BNP or Respect to get power. The Far Left is just as bigger threat to gay people as the BNP. Just consider Ken Livingstone's support for Yusuf al-Qaradawi who openly advocates killing us.The BNP is open about its homophobia. the Far Left pretends to be gay friendly but would happily see us dead if it meant more votes from a certain segment of their constituents.Both are to be condemned.

The only party that is the solution to the politics of ignorance is the Left List, who understand that it is not immigrants, communities, races or any other group who are to blame for things going wrong in our society.The Left List are advocating human policies and abhor scapegoating and vilification of the vulnerable – a whole new generation of council housing as opposed to endless 'luxury' accommodation, cheaper public transport, fully funded public services (and no to privatisation/profit-making in our public sector), no tolerance of discrimination in any form, protect our civil liberties, higher taxes for big business and the wealthy, to name a few of our policies.No other party has come out and put people before profit – we have 3 main parties that are much the same, the Greens who are liberals with no class roots and then the extreme right who have no answers other than the sort of hatred and fascistic policies espoused by Richard Barnbrook.The Left List are doing much of their campaigning at a grassroots level as the agenda is always to ignore the socialist candidate by the media and the establishment. Last time UKIP were championed in the media in the run up to the Mayoral elections and thus came 4th, and this time the Greens are being championed – the desired effect of course is to completely overshadow the socialist challenger – who incidentally beat both the Greens and the BNP last time with a total media blackout.

Apart from everything else about the BNP which I hate. Taking that aside the party would never work as a ruling party. We would be thrown out of the EU. Our reputation as a fair and steady counrty would go out the window. There would be no economic growth. The arts would suffer. The counrty would become grey and it would die. And then who would the BNP blame, because we will all be white, hetrosexual , well, and straight? Divirsty is to be imbraced and nurtured. The real problem is the fact that we have a govenment that is not listerning to the people on the street at the moment. Taking away the lower tax bracket is not going to help the sitution. If they listern and encourge the manufacturing industry back into this counrty, there would be less disent and less of looking for some one or something to blame. There are still more Brits living abroad than there are migrants in this counrty coming in. To equal the balance are all those meant to come back home?

Just what are these rights that heterosexuals might be demanding, anyway?
