The extreme levels of economic abuse faced by immigrant and imported workers are a global problem with the worst offenses occurring in the Gulf Region and the United States. In those regions and others, particularly the EU, immigrant and imported workers who face an inadequate standard of living are also subjected to vicious racist attacks by rightwing groups like the Republicans and Democrats in the US, Le Pen’s Front National in France and the Conservative Party and BNP in England and others. Three steps are needed to improve the lives of immigrant workers. First is a legal guarantee that they and all working people are paid wages and benefits at trade union levels. Second is a guarantee that their civil rights and liberties will be the same as those of non immigrants. And third we need absolute guarantees to the right to asylum for refugees, particularly for those who’s lives are at stake like Mehdi Kazemi and Pegah Emambakhsh. It’s uncivilized to do otherwise.

"It's a great idea, it costs the British tax payer millions every year to treat migrants with life threatening diseases".Immaterial of course that the influx of these workers is what is currently keeping the UK economy buoyant and helping to pay the growing social security bill for a large part of the indigenous population languishing on benefits, waiting for the ‘right’ job to come along.Migrants into this country contribute a huge amount to the British economy, far, far more than they take. If a few of them are sick and need medical help, it’s a small price to pay for the huge net gain to the country in having them here.What next, we start throwing the elderly and this disabled into the sea?

I agree, Steve. Brava Baroness Sarah Ludford! Incidentally, Sarah and I were room-mates in Pimlico, London during the early 70s but we lost touch once I moved. Had no idea that one day she would ever become a Baroness! Well done anyway, Sarah!

It's a great idea, it costs the british tax payer millions every year to treat migrants with life threatening diseases, it's immaterial if they are gay or not, they are a drain on our recourses
