Seen by many as the Ralph Nader of the Republican party, Ron Paul issued his swan song of sorts to the tune of seeking out more money.

It seems the Presidential hopeful will still visit any state in which the "enthusiasm for liberty exists," and accept cheques made payable to his Political Action Committee.

But for now, it would seem, his bid to become President of the United States is done.

In a seven minute video posted to his official website, the Texas Congressmen who energised a campaign largely through internet networking assured supporters "much good has been accomplished" in a campaign that "has far surpassed all my expectations."

"I was never apathetic, but I admit to being sceptical at the beginning of the campaign," Paul says in his video address.

"Though victory in the conventional political sense is not available in the current Presidential race, many victories have been achieved due to your hard work and enthusiams. For that I am deeply grateful."

Spokesman Jesse Benton confirmed to the Washington Post that this video means Paul accepts he is not going to be the nominee.

Benton said Paul will continue to push his message of change in the form of a book, due later this year.
