Spanish tabloid magazine Cuore ran the photos of Real Madrid midfielder Guti outside a restaurant.
Jose Maria Gutierrez Hernandez, 31, is married to TV presenter Arancha de Benito and they have two children.
She has made a statement to the press stating she has decided to "take a break" from their eight year marriage.
The story of his "gay kiss" has been widely reported on football blogs and websites.
Guti has played for Real Madrid his entire career, starting with their youth academy in 1986, and is one of three team captains.
He has 13 caps for Spain and has scored three goals for his country and is something of a sex-symbol.
Guti has starred in two films as himself: Torrente 3: El Protector and Goal! 2: Living the Dream.
David Beckham played alongside him at Real Madrid from 2003 to 2007.
The former England captain has been supportive of the gay community, appearing on the cover of attitude magazine and speaking of his respect for close friends Elton John and David Furnish and his pride at being regarded as a gay icon.
