Bush’s comment "Well, I hope you said how open-minded I am," is a typically oily, patronizing conservative response. They all deny they're bigots but Republicans, Conservatives in Canada and England and Howards 'Liberals' all vote against same sex marriage equality and many other GLBT protective laws. They say that GLBT rights are 'special rights' that infringe on the rights of others, when the opposite is true. Any law that protects the rights of a minority enhances the rights of all minorities and of the majority. Robert, ex-pat is right about same sex marriage. The next two likely states are California and New Jersey, but this is an election year and getting reelected is first on the agenda of politicians. Supporting our rights is as the bottom of their agenda and it's unwise to expect too much before November 4th.

Andy, you're wrong. New Hampshire approved Civil Unions not "marriage" for same-sex couples on January 1, 2008. There is a huge difference. Where did you get your information from? Massachusetts is the only state so far that permits marriage for same-sex couples, but does not allow non-resident couples to marry there unfortunately, unless their own state reciprocates. Civil Unions/Partnerships are NOT marriages.

Massachusetts is not the only state that allows same-sex marriage. Starting January 1st 2008, New Hampshire also allows same-sex marriage. It was the first state to allow it without pressure from the courts. In addition, Vermont and New Jersey allow same-sex unions.
